Taxman Scam
As if the tax code isn’t hard enough deal with, there are tax scams you have to fend off too. You’d think common sense would prevail if it happened to you. The latest instance, reported by CNET, has scam artists impersonating an IRS agent, calling you, and threatening jail time if you don’t pay up.
The IRS sends out regular alerts when a scam pops up on their radar. You can find the latest here. Remember, you’re first contact with the IRS won’t be a phone call or email. You get an official letter in the mail first. If you’re ever uncertain, call the IRS to double check or report it.
