Happy Hour: It’s Bacon!, Filling A Loophole, and 101 Posts
Welcome to Happy Hour and our 101st post. Something I’d never imagine happening based on how much I never wrote before starting this endeavor. Even piecing together a few words into a phrase was a long shot not too long ago. Anyways, here are some of the more interesting reads I came across this week.
It’s Bacon!
If you happen to live near a Jack In The Box, here is a limited time only opportunity for you. The company has come up with a drink that only Homer Simpson would love, a bacon milkshake. If you are craving a pork smoothie, the new bacon shake won’t be listed on the menu. It’s a secret item, just ask for it when you order.
Filling A Loophole
Our Congressmen and woman will have to find another way to profit on their ability to influence laws, government contracts, and more. While Martha Stewart had to sit in jail after avoiding a $45,000 stock loss, our elected officials have been able to profit from nonpublic government information for decades. This might be coming to an end, if these same elected officials actually approve a bill to end insider trading off of government information. Guess we’ll find out just how greedy they are?
Last Call
- A casino sports book is probably the best place to watch a game other than live of course. There also might be some unique “opportunities” in sports betting as was discussed at DQYDJ. Another opportunity, free drinks when you place a bet.
- While we’re on the topic of gambling, First Million writes about how poker made them a better investor. Some good lessons there.
- We covered the Facebook IPO and though I haven’t decided yet if it’s a good investment, it’s always fun to hear a different perspective on its potential. With that, Wealth Artisan discusses why they won’t be investing in Facebook. Some good points.
- “Money is evil” falls under one of several money myths that Watson, Inc. discusses. How we perceive money can be just as important as how we manage it. By the way money isn’t evil, it’s indifferent.
- On the topic of money and it’s benefits. Tom wants to know what is more important, job perks or pay? One of the better Happy Hour perks I’ve heard of, free beer if you work for a beer company.
Cheers

Awesome roundup. I read a few and missed some. Thanks for putting this together!
Nice roundup.
Bacon milkshakes? No way! That just sounds horrible. The thing is, there clearly must be a market for this product. If nothing else, it’s so strange that it’s probably getting a lot of buzz. Interesting marketing case study.
Not too sure about the bacon shake either. Bacon has seen a small cult resurgence lately in restaurants and bars, though.
I had a bacon bloody mary once. The bartender infused the vodka with porky goodness, and then did a bacon bit rim.
Brilliant!
There’s a pub down the street from me that does a weekly beer and bacon tasting. It’s been a big seller.
Happy 101st post. That’s a great accomplishment! Thank you so much for including me in your round up.
